3 Homemade Momo Recipes To Try

Momos are healthy meal to have as it’s steamed and uses less oil. There are many ways to make this humble meal and the ingredients can be chosen as per the availability and requirement. Momos are very healthy, barring the refined flour used. But you can always replace a part of refined flour with whole wheat flour or rice flour and make the dough. But the true essence of any momos is bought forward with refined flour. They are stuffed with yummy ingredients and steamed till it’s gloriously done. The flour recipe is the same for all the momos below. The stuffing recipe and cooking recipes are given below.

Dough Ingredients:

Refined flour: 2 cups
Rice flour: 4 tbsp
Cold water: As needed
Salt:  a pinch
Honey(optional): 1 tsp

Combine the above ingredients to make a pliable dough. Keep this dough under a moist and cold cloth for 30 minutes or so.

Vegetable Momo:

Preparation Time: 20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Serves: 8

Vegetable Momo

Ingredients:

Cabbage: 3 leaflets
Carrot: 1 small
Spring onion:  1 no
Green chillies: 2 small
Salt: a pinch
Ginger garlic paste: 1 tsp
Vinegar: 1 tsp
Olive oil:  2 tsp
Momo dough: As mentioned above

Method:

Step 1:

Cut the cabbage and carrot in thin julienne. slice the onion in thin slice and cut the onion leaves and green chillies in small pieces. Set it aside.

Step 2:

Take a non stick pan and add oil to it and put it to flame. When the oil heats up, add the ginger garlic paste. Now add the vegetables to it with salt and stir it well. Add the vinegar to it and reduce the flame and cook the vegetables. Remove them from flame once it’s done.

Step 3:

Take the dough and divide them into 8 equal balls. roll this ball with a rolling pin on a surface to form a circle. Take a teaspoon of the vegetable mixture and place it to the center of the circle. Now, gather the edges together to get a layered drop of momos. You can add a bit of water to the edges so that the frills stick well.  Steam these momos for around 10 minutes.

Step 4:

If you don’t have a steamer, you can use a large pan and fill it with 2 cups of water and then place a plate over a stand and steam the momos over it. Cover the pan for proper steaming. Remove in a serving plate and serve them hot with sheuzwan sauce.

Chicken Momos:

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Serves: 8

Chicken Momos

Ingredients:

Boneless chicken(minced): 2 cups
Ginger garlic paste: 1 tsp
Salt: a pinch
Dark soy sauce: 2 tsp
Lemon juice: 2 tsp
Green chillies (chopped) : 2 tsp
Olive oil:  2tsp

Method:

Step 1:

Clean the chicken and rub it with a bit of lemon juice and salt. Take a cooking pan and add olive oil to it. Once it’s heated, add ginger garlic paste and the chicken. Keep on flipping the chicken so that all sides are cooked well. Add the soy sauce and  chopped green chillies to the mix. Add salt if you feel it’s not flavored well. Cook till everything is meshed well. Remove from the flame.

Step 2:

Fish Momos:

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Serves: 8

Fish Momos

Ingredients:

Fish fillets: 500 gms
Garlic (chopped) :  2 tsp
Salt: to taste
Lemon juice: 2 tsp
Green chillies (chopped): 1 tsp
Dark soy sauce: 1 tsp
Olive oil: 2 tsp

Method:

Step 1:

Clean the fish and de-bone any stray areas. Make sure its cleaned well. Mash the fish with the back of a spoon and check for stray bones. Sprinkle lemon juice and salt to it and mix it. Set it aside.

Step 2:

Take a cooking pan and add oil to it . Add the fish and let it cook well in the oil. Care should be taken to cook it well. Now add the dark soy sauce, chopped chillies and chopped garlic to the fish and mix it well. Once cooked, set the mix aside.

Step 3:

Take the dough and divide them into 8 equal balls. roll this ball with a rolling pin on a surface to form a circle. Take a teaspoon of the fish mixture and place it to the center of the circle. Now, gather the edges together to get a layered drop of momos. You can add a bit of water to the edges so that the frills stick well.  Steam these momos for around 10 minutes. Serve hot with sheuzwan sauce.
