Best Thai Recipe Of Yogurt Fish With Crushed Coconut Rice At Home

This is Yogurt Fish with Crushed Coconut Rice. Coconut is a very tasty fruit. Using of crushed coconut in food is very popular in Thailand. It adds an extra flavor to food. Here I am using plain rice to make it. However, as we all know that plain rice contains lot of carbohydrates. So if you are a diet conscious, you can use brown rice as well. Taste will be little different in that case but that will also be very tasty and delicious. In the yogurt fish, I have used Sardine fish fillet. It is a boneless fish. Moreover it has high nutrition value. You can use any fish at your choice. Using of sea or salted water fish will add an extra taste to this dish. Let Us Start With Yogurt Fish:

1. Yogurt Fish:

This is a very tasty and tangy recipe. Using of fresh yogurt has made this recipe very delicious. Let’s check the process of making.

Yogurt Fish

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 20 Minutes
Serves: 2

Ingredients:

We would need some very easily available ingredients to make this.

4 pieces of fish fillet ( boneless fillets are recommended)
1 cup fresh yogurt
3 tsp of ginger paste
1 tsp mustard powder ( you can get it at any departmental store. However, you can avoid this as well. Taste will be little different in that case but not much)
2 tsp onion paste
1/2 tsp sugar
4 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp unsalted butter
2 bay leaves
2 cloves
1/2 tsp paprika powder
salt to taste

Process Of Making:

Let’s follow some simple steps to make this.

Step 1

Mix salt with all the fish fillets. Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry lightly all the fillets. Keep them aside.

Step 2

Take a mixing bowl. Add yogurt,mustard powder, salt, sugar and paprika into the bowl. Mix everything very well. Now add the fried fish fillet in to it. Coat all the fillets with this yogurt mixture. Keep it aside for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Add oil in a frying pan. Now add unsalted butter into it. When the butter will mix fully with the oil, add bay leaves and cloves in to it. Add onion paste. Saute for about two minutes. Now add the marinated fish along with the yogurt mixture. Saute for 5 minutes on medium flame. Now add little water into it. Cover the frying pan with a lid. After 5 minutes when the gravy will become thick, switch off the flame.

Our Yogurt Fish is ready. Let’s make the Crushed Coconut Rice.

2. Crushed Coconut Rice:

Crushed coconut rice is a very delicious rice item. This dish can be eaten not only with yogurt fish but also with any other gravy dishes. Any chicken dishes will also go very well with this rice item. Let’s start of making this.

Crushed Coconut Rice

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Cooking Time: 25 Minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

Let’s check what we need for it.

2 cup of uncooked rice
1 cup of crushed coconut ( Take 7-8 pieces of coconut slice and grind it in to a grinder to make it crushed)
1 cup of coconut milk ( You can get it any departmental store. However, you can make it at home by simply soaking crushed coconut in to water)
2 tsp freshly chopped celery
1/2 tsp cumin seed
2 green chili
1/2 tsp unsalted butter
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp sugar
10-12 cashew nuts
salt as per taste

Method Of Preparation:

We will following the below steps to make this:

Step 1

Soak the rice for 20 minutes. As I mentioned before, I have used here normal plain rice. However, it’s completely up to you which rice you will be choosing. If you choose brown rice, then soak them for 45 minutes.

Step 2

After 20 minutes of soaking, strain the water from rice. Take a big bowl. Add 4 cups of water and 1 cup of coconut milk in to it. When the water will start boiling, add the soaked rice in to it. Boil the rice until they are fully cooked. After that, strain out the excess water. Keep the cooked rice aside.

Step 3

Heat oil in a frying pan. Add celery leaves and cumin seeds in to it. When they will start sputter, add cashew nuts in to it. Fry the cashew nut until they are golden brown.

Step 4

In the same pan, add cooked rice and crushed coconut. Mix them properly. Saute for a minute on low flame. Now add green chili, salt and sugar. Increase the flame. Mix everything properly. Saute for 3-4 minutes. Switch off the flame. Top the rice with butter.

Our Crushed Coconut Rice is ready. Serve hot with Yogurt Fish.
