Bun With Vegetarian Chinese Stuffing Recipe

Baking breads is one of the most satisfying activity. When the transformation of a dough happens, it elates you immensely. Once you master the bread making, you can experiment with various additions and stuffing. Stuffed bread is a handy snack that can be relished anytime of the day. It’s a perfect party or picnic accompaniment as its clean and full meal in itself.

Bun With Vegetarian Chinese Stuffing

Preparation Time: 90 minutes

Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Serves: 10-15

Ingredients: 

For The dough:

Refined flour: 2 cups
Whole wheat flour: 1 cup
Olive oil: 1 tbsp
Salt: To taste
Active dry yeast: 2 tsp
Warm water: 1 cup
Sugar: 2 tsp

For The Stuffing

Onion: 1 large
Capsicum: 1 large
Cabbage: 1 small
Carrot: 1 medium
Ginger garlic paste: 2 tsp
Dark soy sauce: 1 tbsp
Red chilli sauce: 1 tbsp
Salt: To taste
Oil: 1 tbsp

Method:

For Dough:

Take a cup and mix sugar and warm water to it. Now add yeast to it and let the yeast bloom for 10-15 minutes. Take the refined flour and add the whole wheat flour to it. Add salt and olive oil to the flour and then add the bloomed yeast water to it. Knead it till you get the smooth dough. Add warm water, if necessary. Place this dough in a plate and cover it with moist cloth. Let it set for 90 minutes or till the time it doubles in size.

For The Stuffing:

Cut the onions, capsicum, cabbage, carrot in thin julienne. Now take a non stick pan and add oil to it. Throw the cut vegetables in sizzling oil and stir fry the vegetables. add the ginger garlic paste and shallow fry it more. Add the dark soy sauce and red chilli sauce and salt and cook till the onions are caramelized and soft.

Stuffed Bun Method:

Once the dough is doubled in size, divide the dough in mini ball size pieces. Now flatten this dough with help of rolling pin and put some of the stuffing in the center. Roll this dough in a ball again. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes.

Grease and dust the baking tray. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes. Place the balls with some space in between. You can brush some butter or egg wash on top of the bun and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. Bake for around 15 minutes at 160 degrees C. Check the buns at intervals as every oven/convection is different. Remove once done and let it cool over the rack and serve.
