Cheesy Grilled Fish Recipe

The recipe of a Cheesy Grilled Fish is ideal for fussy children. It is a simple recipe whereby fish is grilled with salt and pepper and served with ham and cheese. It is an extremely nutritious dish and can be given in the evening or for supper. A side of stir fried vegetables works wonders with the dish and is the perfect way of treating children to healthy vegetables.

Preparation Time: 25 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Servings: 4


Fish fillet: 4 pieces or 500 grams
Mature cheddar cheese: 50 grams
Ham: 4 slices
Salt: to taste
Pepper: ½ teaspoon
Lime juice: 1 teaspoon
Spring onions: 2 pieces
Oil: for brushing
Carrots: ¼ cup
Beans: ¼ cup
Broccoli: ¼ cup
Cabbage: ½ cup

Method Of Preparation:

Step 1

Take 4 big fish fillets, preferably of cod or hoki. Choose the skinless variety. Marinate it with lime juice, salt and pepper. Keep the fillets in the marinade for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 2

Heat a grill pan on high and add some oil. Once the oil heats up, arrange the fish fillets on the pan one by one. Grill each side for 2 minutes.

Step 3

In the meanwhile, dice carrots, beans and broccoli. Shred the cabbage. Heat a separate pan and add olive oil. Stir fry all the veggies, adding carrots, beans and broccoli first. The harder vegetables take longer to cook and must be added to the pan before softer ones like cabbage. Lightly toss them around, making sure that they do not lose their crunch. Mix the cabbage at last and season it with salt and pepper. You can also sprinkle mixed herbs for added taste and flavor. Keep it aside.

Step 4

Grate cheddar cheese and mix it with sliced spring onions. Remove the fish fillets from the pan after 2 minutes and top it with a thin slice of ham and cheese mixture. Return it to the grill and cook until it is fully done. Prod with a knife or a fork to see whether the fish easily flakes or not. This will take somewhere between 5 to 6 minutes. Once done, serve hot with stir fried vegetables. You can also serve a garlic mayonnaise dip along with the fish fillets.
