Easy Baba Ghanoush Recipe

Baba Ghanoush is a traditional Lebanese dip that is served along with Hummus and pita bread. It’s made from charred eggplant and has a distinctive smell and taste to it. IT’s very healthy dip as it requires minimal fats and no cheese. It’s consistency is same as hummus but it’s taste is very different. It’s very famous and health conscious people love it. It’s a good idea to incorporate various dips along with the pita bread to complete the whole Mediterranean platter and Baba Ghanoush is an important part of it.

You don’t require many ingredients for it but it’s important to use the same ingredients without substitution to get the feel of traditional Baba Ghanoush. Although it’s traditionally had with pita bread, it can also be enjoyed with regular bread or a flat bread. It brings out the flavors of middle east to your homes.

Baba Ghanoush

Preparation Time: 20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 5 Minutes
Serves: 4


Eggplant: 1 large
Garlic pods: 5 nos.
Tahini sauce: 2 tbsp
Lemon juice: 2 tbsp
Olive oil: 1 tbsp
Salt: to taste
Red chilli powder (optional): 1 tsp
Parsley (optional): 2 tsp


Step 1

Wash eggplant and pat dry.

Step 2

Cover the eggplant with a bit of olive oil and make slits with knife.

Step 3

Insert garlic pods deep inside the slit eggplant and then, put the eggplant directly on stove to bar-be-que it well. Keep on switching the sides so that the flame covers the entire eggplant. Keep on cooking it till the eggplant becomes charred and you can see the skin of the eggplant a bit flaky. After that, remove from the flame and let it cool down.

Step 4

You can get tahini sauce from stores but if you want to make your own tahini sauce, you will require  around a cup of sesame seeds that are toasted in stove top. Then, you need to grind it in a food processor and then add around 3 tbsp of Olive oil to it to make a smooth paste. You will get around a cup of tahini sauce that you can store in a sterilized glass jar.

Step 5

Once the Eggplant is cooled, remove the skin well by simple peeling it off from eggplant. crush the eggplant meat with help of a knife.

Step 6

Now, in a food processor, add the eggplant with garlic, tahini sauce, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, red chilli powder and parsley and pulse it well. If the mixture is coarse, add a bit of water to make the consistency smooth. Baba Ghanoush is ready now.
