How To Make Thai Style Steamed Fish

In a world where health issues have become trivial, switching to a low calorie diet has become essential. And fish can be considered one of the best choices for people looking to bring about a healthy change. A lean protein, it is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins and essential nutrients. While fried fish is often preferred by many of us, steamed fish is a healthier choice.

Thai cuisine has mastered the art of blending flavours brilliantly and if you are a weight watcher or wish to switch to a low fat diet, try the Thai style steamed fish. It is not only a low calorie dish which packs in awesome taste, it can be prepared in a jiffy.

Here’s The Recipe For A Thai Style Steamed Fish:

Thai Style Steamed Fish Recipe

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:

Trout fillets: 2 pieces of approximately 140 grams each
Soy sauce: 2 tablespoon
Garlic: 1 clove
Red chilli: 1 small
Baby pak choi: 3 pieces
Root ginger: 1 inch piece
Lime: 1 piece
Lime zest: 1 teaspoon
Salt: to taste
Black pepper: 1 teaspoon
Thai jasmine rice: 1 bowl
Cucumber: 1 small
Tomato: 1 small
Onion: 1 small
Lemon juice: 1 teaspoon

Method Of Preparation:

Step 1

Take a large square aluminium foil. Place the fish fillets side by side. Finely chop the ginger, garlic and red chilli. If you do not like very spicy food, remember to deseed the chilli. Spread the chopped ginger, garlic and chilli over the fish pieces along with some lime zest. Take some lime juice in a spoon and carefully drizzle it all over the fish. Now, cut the pak choys lengthwise and arrange it over the fish pieces. Sprinkle a little seasoning of salt and black pepper. Drizzle soy sauce on the fish. Make sure that the fish is completely covered in seasoning.

Step 2

Loosely seal the foil to form a package. Leave enough space on top to allow the steam to circulate and cook the fish.

Step 3

Place the package on a steamer and steam for 15 minutes. Alternatively, keep a bowl of simmering hot water beneath a heat proof plate and place the fish on it. The steam generated from the heat will be enough to cook the fish. Open the package after 15 minutes and serve it with a salad of cucumber, tomato and onion. Chop the vegetables, sprinkle some lime juice, salt and pepper to make the salad. Also serve a bowl of jasmine rice with steamed fish.
