Quick Recipe For Yummy Chicken Gyros With Tzatziki Sauce

Chicken gyros are an easy to prepare Greek dish and take us to the sunny weather and sandy beaches of the Greek coast. It makes a quick and tasty family dinner in less than half an hour. It is a wholesome and healthy meal in which chicken strips marinated with classic Greek ingredients are roasted and rolled in pita wraps, along with cool tzatziki sauce and fresh vegetables. It can be made with leftover chicken too.

Here Is The Simple Recipe For Delicious Chicken Gyros With Tzaziki Sauce:

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 20 Minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

Chicken breasts, skinless and boneless – four
Olive oil – three tablespoons
Yogurt – one tablespoon
Garlic, minced – one tablespoon
Lemon juice, freshly squeezed – one tablespoon
Oregano, dried – one teaspoon
Greek seasoning (optional) – one teaspoon
Yogurt – one tablespoon
Pepper – one teaspoon
Salt to taste

For Tzatziki Sauce:

Cucumbers, peeled and grated – two
Cold yogurt – two cups
Olive oil – one tablespoon
Lemon juice freshly squeezed – two tablespoons
Garlic, minced – two tablespoons
Chopped dill – two tablespoons
Pepper powder – half teaspoon
Salt to taste

For Assembling:

Pita bread – four
Red peppers, thinly sliced – half cup
Red onions, thinly sliced – one cup
Cucumbers, peeled, deseeded and diced – half cup
Tomatoes, deseeded and diced – half cup
Fresh parsley, finely chopped – quarter cup
Pepper – half teaspoon
Salt to taste

Methods:

Step 1

Take a small bowl and mix the minced garlic, lemon juice, oregano, yogurt, pepper and Greek seasoning. Add salt for seasoning and transfer this marinade to a zip lock.

Step 2

Cut the chicken breasts to thin strips of half inch thickness. Place the chicken strips along with the marinade in the zip lock and shake and rub well, so that the strips are coated well with the marinade. Refrigerate it for a minimum of half an hour. It would taste best if marinated  under refrigeration, overnight.

Step 3

Heat a skillet over moderately high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, fry the marinated chicken strips in batches, until crisp and cooked through. Transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels for removing excess oil.

Step 4

For the tzatziki sauce, peel the cucumbers, remove the seeds and grate them. Squeeze out the excess water from the grated cucumbers and dry them by pressing between a fresh kitchen towel. Transfer to a bowl and add the olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped dill and pepper powder and combine well. Now stir in the cold yogurt and add salt for seasoning. Keep the tzaziki sauce refrigerated, until serving time.

Step 5

In a large bowl, lightly mix together the sliced red peppers, onions, tomatoes, cucumber and chopped parsley. Add pepper and salt for seasoning. Keep aside.

Step 6

Heat a flat pan, brush with olive oil and place the pita bread. Heat for half a minute and flip once. Heat the other side also for half a minute. Repeat with all four pita breads.

Step 7

For assembling, place the heated pita bread over a parchment paper. Spoon in a layer of roasted chicken strips along the middle of the pita bread. Top it with a layer of the vegetable mix. Now drizzle the tzatziki sauce along the top of the vegetables and roll the bread. Fold the parchment paper to enclose the chicken wrap and secure its end. Repeat, with the remaining pita breads. The chicken gyros are ready to be served!
