Beef steak: 350 grams
Chinese five spice powder: 2 teaspoon
Corn flour: 3 tablespoon
Spring onion: 4 pieces
Vegetable oil: 100ml
Red chilli: 1 piece
Garlic: 2 cloves
Red pepper: 1 piece
Ginger: 1 inch piece
Soy sauce: 1 tablespoon
Tomato ketchup: 2 tablespoon
Sweet chilli sauce: 2 tablespoon
Rice wine vinegar: 4 tablespoon
Cooked noodles: 1 bowl
Prawn crackers: 1 small packet
Method Of Preparation:
Cut the beef steak into thin strips. It is preferable to choose undercuts for this recipe as the meat has to be cooked quickly. Mix corn flour and Chinese five spice powder with the beef. Add a dash of lemon juice and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Take a big pan with enough water. Heat it until it starts boiling. Add noodles to the boiling water and cook until it is soft and fluffy. Drain out the excess water and let it cool down. Cook it with a choice of sauces, vegetables, chicken, egg and seafood. Keep it ready to be served with Crispy Chilli Beef.
Heat oil in a large wok for deep frying. Add the beef strips to hot oil and fry until they are crispy and golden in color. Remove the meat pieces with a slotted spoon and place them on an absorbent tissue paper to dry out the excess oil. Keep it aside and remove oil from the wok. Leave only 1 tablespoon oil in the wok and stash away the rest of the frying oil.
Heat the wok and add the thinly sliced red chilli along with red pepper slices. Tip in the white portions of spring onion and toss on high flame. Add crushed garlic cloves along with thin strips of ginger. Mix everything and stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Let them soften but make sure that the ginger and garlic does not burn.
To create the sauce for Crispy Chilli Beef, take a bowl and mix rice wine vinegar, tomato ketchup, sweet chilli sauce along with soy sauce. Add 2 tablespoon of water to this mixture and stir well. Pour this sauce mix over the hot vegetables. Let it bubble for a minute or two before tossing in the fried beef. Coat the beef strips with the gravy and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Check for seasoning and the dish is now ready to be served.
Remove it from the pan and place it over a bowl of cooked noodles. Scatter a few prawn crackers on top and garnish with spring onion greens. Add chopped red chilli on top if you like spicy dishes. Asian style red chilli oil can be drizzled for extra taste and flavor. Serve hot.
