Recipe Of A Perfect Classic American Sponge Cake

Who doesn’t love a classic American Sponge Cake which is finely blended with a sweetness that is merged lemony flavor? It is a perfect cake for health conscious people as it contains very low fat and is suggested for those who are keen on monitoring their intake of fats. You can eat this cake without adding anything on to it or it can also be served with fresh fruits and a whipped cream.

Classic American Sponge Cake

Preparation Time – One and half hour
Cooking Time – Thirty minutes
Serves – 10

Ingredients Of This Recipe:

6 Eggs
2 tbsp of normal temperature water
1½ tsp of lemon zest,
½ tsp of extracted vanilla
¾ tsp of tartar cream
1 cup of sugar
1 1/2 cups of sifted cake flour
¼ tsp of baking powder


Step 1:

Beat the cold eggs. Separate them into the yolks in one bowl and whites in another bowl. Cover the bowls which plastic wrap and let them come to a room temperature.

Step 2:

Mix sifted cake flour with baking powder and set aside.

Step 3:

Take a mixing bowl. Add two-third cups of sugar and egg yolks into the mixing bowl. Whisk them. Start adding water, lemon zest and vanilla extract. Blend well and keep this preparation aside.

Step 4:

Take a mixing bowl. And beat whites of egg until you notice that egg whites are frothy. Now, start adding leftover sugar and tartar cream to these egg whites. Beat them continuously until you notice soft peaks of this preparation.

Step 5:

Now, quickly whirl the batter you prepared with egg yolks into the cake flour preparation. Gently and slowly mix the batter with egg yolks preparation.

Step 6:

Once done, transfer the resulting one into the pan. Smooth the top of the batter with the help of spatula. Place the pan into the oven. Allow it to bake for at least twenty five minutes. This is to ensure that the batter becomes soft to touch. To test if it is properly cooked or not, insert a tooth pick into the cake. If it comes out easily and without any cake flour bits attached, it is properly cooked.

Step 7:

Take out the pan. Give some time for the cake for getting into normal temperature. Serve with either fruits or plain.
