Recipe Of Ham And Cheese Croquettes

Today we have a very easy and cheesy recipe for you. Yes, you heard that right! Today you will be making cheesy ham croquettes. The name says it all. It has cheese and ham. It is best served as a starter with some wine or chilled beer. The recipe is super easy and even if you are not a chef material, you will still be able to cook this. Take a look and start cooking!

Here Is The Recipe Of Ham And Cheese Croquettes:

Preparation Time: 25 Minutes
Cooking Time: 30 Minutes
Serves: 10


Unsalted butter – 3 tbsp
Chopped onion – 1/2 cup
All purpose flour – 3/4 cup
Cayenne pepper – 1/2 tsp
Kosher salt
Milk – 1 cup
Sliced and diced ham – 1 cup
Grated cheddar cheese – 1/2 cup (white)
Chopped thyme – 1/2 tsp
Smashed garlic – 3
Peas – 10 ounce box (1)
Chicken broth – 3/4 cup
Grated lemon zest – 1 tsp
Ground pepper
Vegetable oil
Beaten eggs – 2
Crushed crackers – 40 crackers

Method Of Preparation:

Step 1

Take a saucepan and melt butter in it over medium heat. Now add the onion and cook till they get soft. This should take about 5 minutes. Now add the 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 tsp salt and the cayenne pepper. Cook it and stir it using a wooden spoon to make it a little dry. It should turn into a stiff mix. This will take about 3 minutes or so. Now slowly add the milk and whisk till it becomes a smooth paste. Stir till this batter becomes a ball. This should take another 3 minutes.

Step 2

Now remove it fro heat and stir in the cheese, fresh thyme and ham. Spread this mix into a square baking pan evenly. The pan should be 8 inch and it should be greased before you pour in the mix. Cool it and refrigerate it till it gets firm. This should take an hour or so.

Step 3

Now make the pea sauce by boiling 3 cups of water and garlic in a saucepan. Add the frozen peas and cook till it gets thawed. This will take about 30 seconds. Drain and transfer the thawed peas and the garlic to a mixer grinder. Add the lemon zest and broth. Blend it till it is smooth. Season it with pepper and salt. Set it aside.

Step 4

Now take a saucepan and heat oil in it to about 340 degrees. The oil should be about 3 inches. Now you need to place the egg, flour and crumbs in 3 separate dishes. Make sure it is shallow dishes because you will be dipping the mix in these to coat. Now take out the mix/dough and make 20 croquettes with it using your hands. Dredge each of them – first in flour, then in eggs and then roll on the crumbs.

Step 5

Now fry these croquettes in the hot oil. Make sure you fry in batches till they turn golden brown. Drain it on the paper towel and line them up on a serving dish. Season it with salt and serve it with the yummy pea sauce. Your dish is ready to serve and eat! Make sure you serve it hot as it tastes the best when hot.
