Recipe To Prepare Swedish Spritz Cookies And Swedish Dream Cookies

Here I am explaining how to prepare Swedish spritz cookie and Swedish Dream cookie. The name Swedish spritz comes from German language. A Swedish spritz cookie is a butter cookie. It is called Spritz because Spritzen in German for squirt and you make these cookies by squirting them out of a cookie press. This can be made on all occasions and is very easy to prepare.

Here Are The Recipes To Prepare Swedish Spritz Cookies And Swedish Dream Cookies:

1. Swedish Spritz Cookies:

Swedish Spritz Cookies

Preparation Time – 15 Minutes
Baking Time – 10 Minutes
Servings. – 50 Cookies

Ingredients Needed:

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 cups flour
Food colour – 2 drops
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence.

Method:

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugar, egg, baking powder and vanilla extract. Beat well. Add flour. Mix into a smooth dough. The dough should not be too firm or too soft.

Step 2

Add a few drops of food colouring and mix well, till the dough absorbs all the colour. You can divide the dough and add different colours. I prefer red and green colour. Press the dough in a cookie press and place on ungreased baking sheets.  Bake at 375 degree for ten minutes. Take care the cookies will not get burnt.

2. Swedish Dream Cookies:

This almond coconut cookie melts in your mouth. This makes the perfect gift to give to your family on any occasion.

Swedish Dream Cookies

Preparation Time – 15 Minutes
Baking Time – 10 Minutes
Servings – 40 Cookies

Ingredients Needed:

1 cup butter
3 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baker’s ammonia
1 tablespoon boiling water
1 teaspoon almond essence

Method:

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar and butter. Add almond extract. Beat for ten minutes. You can use an electric beater also. In a container dissolve Baker’s ammonia in hot water. Add this to the butter mixture. Add flour and coconut. Mix well.

Step 2

Drop cookie into a greased baking sheet. Bake cookies in preheated oven for ten minutes. Remove from oven and cool on pan, for five minutes, before transferring to wire racks to complete cooling. Care should be taken not open the oven until the cookies are done.

Note

Ammonium carbonate is a classic leavener to prepare crunchy cookies. It has a strong repellent smell but the odour dissipates when baking the cookies.  You can find Baker’s Ammonia in any pharmacy.
