One such dish is orange chicken, especially the one served in malls and Chinese restaurants. Well, it is not always healthy to have something outside. As all of us know nothing can beat a homemade dish, the flavorful, tangy citrus dish can be prepared at home with the same restaurant-made taste. Though it involves some preparation time, it will be a delicious treat to the family.

Serves – 4




Boneless skinless chicken (cut into pieces) – 2
All purpose flour – 1 cup
Salt – ¼ teaspoon
Pepper – ¼ teaspoon
Olive oil – 3 teaspoon
Water – 11/2 cup
Orange juice – 2 tablespoon
Lemon juice – ¼ cup
Vinegar – 1/3 cup
Orange zest – 1 tablespoon
Soy sauce – 2 tablespoon
Brown sugar – 1 cup
Minced ginger – ½ teaspoon
Minced garlic – ½ teaspoon
Green onions – 2 teaspoons
Red pepper flakes – ¼ teaspoon
Cornstarch – 3 tablespoon

Method Of Preparation:

Step 1

Pour water in a saucepan and add lemon juice, orange juice, soy sauce and vinegar to it. Set the pan to heat. Add orange zest, garlic, ginger, brown sugar red pepper and onions to the sauce mixture and allow it to boil. Once it boils, stop heating and let it cool down.

Step 2

Put the chicken in a plastic bag, preferably re-sealable. Once the sauce mixture cool down, add one cup of the mixture into the bag and seal the bag. Put it in the refrigerator for about 2 hours minimum.

Step 3

Blend all purpose flour, pepper and salt in a bowl and put the marinated chicken into it. Shake well so that the chicken pieces are well coated with the flour mixture.

Step 4

Take a medium sized skillet and heat olive oil. Put the chicken in the skillet and cook until both sides turn brown. Transfer the cooked chicken to a tissue paper lined plate.

Step 5

Clean the skillet, pour the remaining sauce in the skillet and boil it. Add cornstarch and little water. Mix well by stirring and put in the chicken pieces and cook on low flame for about 5 minutes with occasional stirring. Remove once the sauce thickens and serve hot.
