Ingredients
Tuna steaks: 2 pieces
Vegetable oil: 2 teaspoon
Potato: 500 grams
Wasabi paste: 2 teaspoon
Soy sauce: 3 tablespoon
Caster sugar: 1 tablespoon
Semi-skimmed milk: 100ml
Rice wine vinegar: 1 tablespoon
Spring onion: 1 piece
Soya beans or broad beans: to serve

Method Of Preparation

Step 1

To begin this recipe, you need to marinate the tuna steaks. Combine soy sauce, caster sugar and rice wine vinegar in a small bowl. Mix all the ingredients very well. Pour this mixture over the steaks and cover it completely. Let it marinate for 15 to 20 minutes. If time permits, keep the marinated fish in the refrigerator for 2 hours. This will allow the marinade to seep through perfectly.

Step 2

Take a big pan to boil the potatoes. Fill it half with salted water and let it come to a boil. Cut the potatoes into quarters and place it in the hot water. Let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes until it becomes soft and tender. Insert a toothpick or a fork inside the potatoes to check whether they are fully cooked or not. Once done, drain the excess water and keep aside.

Step 3

Heat the semi-skimmed milk in another pan. Add the wasabi paste to the hot milk. Mix well until the paste dissolves in the milk. Now place the boiled potatoes in the pan and mash it with a ladle or vegetable masher. It must be smooth and lump free. Finely chop the spring onions and mix it with the mashed potato. Cover and keep the potatoes aside.

Step 4

Remove the tuna steaks from the refrigerator. Heat some vegetable oil in a non-stick pan and place the steaks over the hot griddle. Let the tuna sear on one side for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip it over and let the other side cook. Remember, fish cooks very quickly and you must not keep it on the flame for too long. It will soon dry out and lose all its juice. So, make sure that you cook till it is pink inside. In about 5 minutes, the outer skin will be seared and crispy while the inside will be juicy and soft.

Step 5

Prepare the soya beans or broad beans according to your preference. You can either boil it and season with some salt and pepper or make a stir-fry. For a simple stir-fry, heat some oil, add a clove of chopped garlic and saute for a minute or two. Once the garlic turns brown, add the beans and toss over high heat. Add any sauce of your choice. For this recipe, you can add wasabi sauce and a little bit of chilli sauce for extra heat and taste. Cook for a few minutes until it loses its raw smell. However, make sure that the beans remain crispy.

Step 6

Serve the tuna steaks with mashed wasabi potatoes and freshly prepared beans.
