Ingredients Needed To Prepare This Recipe:

Desiree potatoes – 1 kg
Double cream – 284 ml carton
Full fat milk – 300 ml
Roughly chopped shallots – 1
Parseman, freshly grated – 25 gram
Freshly grated nutmeg – 1 small pinch
Peeled and halved garlic clove – 1
Fresh thyme – 2 sprigs + extra for sprinkling

Let’s Come Across The Method Of Preparing The Recipe:

Step 1:

Set the oven at 160 degree Celsius.

Step 2:

Take a gratin dish and rub butter on all over its surface. Take the potatoes and slice into thin pieces but not very thin. On a clean tea towel, keep these slices and allow to dry. Till then you can prepare other ingredients.

Step 3:

Take a saucepan and pour milk and cream into it. Add shallots, thyme and garlic to it. Place on heat and wait till the temperature reaches the boiling point. The bubbles will starts appearing from the edge of the pan. Remove from the heat after. Take a large jug and strain this mixture in the jug. Add nutmeg to it and keep aside. Do keep it warm.

Step 4:

Now you have to take a dish and keep the potatoes slices in it in layers. Take half the slices of potatoes that you have cut above and keep on the dish. These slices should be overlapping each other in the layers. Now for the taste, add some ground pepper to these slices. You do not need to be very careful with the potato slices, you can save the best one for later. This will help in making the top of the dish look amazing and even more delicious.

Step 5:

Now comes the usage of what you have prepared in the third step. Pour that hot milk and cream mixture over the potato slices that you have made layers from. Once you have poured this mixture, form another layer. Pour again. This time pour all the mixture and do not save for later. On top of this, add cheese carefully. You have to be careful with the cheese so that when it bakes into the oven, it spreads to all parts of the dish evenly and you do not feel uneven taste. Slide the whole dish into the oven and bake for about one hour. When it becomes tender and golden in color, you have to remove from the oven. After removing from the oven, you can to place aside for some 5 minutes.
